LEF Program Descriptions

Established in December 2004, the Luxury Education Foundation is a public not-for-profit organization that focuses on educational programs for undergraduate and graduate students in Design and Business related to the creation and marketing of luxury goods. LEF programs provide students with various platforms to engage with senior executives in leading luxury firms to understand and appreciate the unique properties and fine craftsmanship as manifested in the industry.

The “Design & Marketing of Luxury Products” Master Class

In this semester-long course, MBA students from Columbia Business School and Design students from Parsons The New School of Design work in teams to solve actual case studies formulated exclusively for this class by the participating companies. The goal of this course is to understand the significant role that each field plays in the creation and marketing of luxury goods, as well as the importance of communication and collaboration between disciplines.

LEF Scholarship Program

Launched in 2009, the “Luxury Education Foundation Scholarship” program provides annual scholarships to Ph.D. students at Columbia Business School and Design students from Parsons The New School for Design. The scholarships are awarded to students who exhibit an extraordinary level of leadership and innovation in their work, and whose accomplishments are a testament to their commitment and talent in their fields.

LEF Luxury Round Table

The LEF Luxury Round Table (LRT) is an annual panel discussion in which three to four industry leaders share their views on current trends and challenges facing the industry with an enthusiastic group of business and design students. The event is designed to encourage and inspire students who are the future business and creative leaders in luxury. The event targets an audience of approximately 150 students and alumni from Columbia Business School, Parsons the New School for Design, and select industry guests.

LEF Executive Breakfast Series

The Luxury Education Foundation is pleased to present the “LEF Executive Breakfast Series” in collaboration with the Retail & Luxury Goods Club (RLG) at Columbia Business School. These intimate breakfast sessions allow a limited number of students committed to the luxury goods space to have rare access to important figures in the luxury field, and engage in informal and intimate dialogue with the presidents and CEOs of leading luxury firms.

LEF Marketing Luncheon

The Luxury Education Foundation is pleased to present the “LEF Marketing Luncheon” program in collaboration with the Marketing Association of Columbia (MAC) at Columbia Business School. This lunchtime panel discussion provides MBA students interested in marketing with the rare opportunity to have an open dialogue with leading Marketing professionals and gain a better understanding of career paths and opportunities for MBA graduates in the Luxury Industry.

LEF “Corporate Classroom” Tours

The Luxury Education Foundation is pleased to present the LEF “Corporate Classroom” series in collaboration with MAC. This series of educational company tours allows a select group of students to spend the day at the New York headquarters of leading luxury firms for a rare glimpse into the day-to-day operations of leading luxury firms: visits include special company presentations, meet and greets with senior level executives, and tours of flagship stores with a focus on providing students with hands on education in the luxury industry. LEF is delighted to announce that the first “Corporate Classroom” will take place at Chanel on Friday, April 8th, 2011.

LEF Conversation Series

The Luxury Education Foundation is delighted to host a series of evening conversations with luxury experts at Columbia Business School, featuring guest speakers from the industry and other relevant industries. The first event of this special series featured a conversation between the legendary Burt Tansky, Chairman & former CEO of the Neiman Marcus Group, and Bridget Foley, Executive Editor of Women’s Wear Daily, on Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011 at 6 PM in Uris Hall.
